The Lead Parts Engineer is an instrumental member of the Parts Engineering team responsible for the technical support of Engineered and Transactional flowpart quotes and orders. The Parts Engineering team is a key element of the Steam Power Parts business, consisting of a cross functional team of commercial, fulfilment, engineering, materials management and sourcing colleagues that deliver critical parts to support GE Customers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibilities of the Lead Parts Engineer is to support Should Cost initiatives and to provide engineering and/or CMPD support for urgent engineered flowpart quotes and orders. This includes, but is not limited to some or all of the following activities:
  • Supporting the Value Engineering - Should Cost program. The purpose of this role is to provide Should Costs for the identified parts with the aim to support the Sourcing team in negotiating improved prices with suppliers.
  • Specify the design requirements for Steam Turbine and Generator Engineered flowparts. It may include components such as buckets/blades, packing rings, diaphragms, valves, bearings, H2 seal rings and other components. This includes:
  • Reviewing the order to assure adequate information is available to accurately fulfil the order.
  • Research records to determine what hardware is presently installed in the unit.
  • Determining what features of the existing hardware need to be updated, and what analysis is necessary to properly update the existing design.
  • Document record reviews and design inputs in an Engineering memo and store this design history in DRB.
  • Create models, drawings and BOMs and/or perform a final review of engineering/CMPD deliverables to sourcing or factories.
  • One of the focus of this role is on emergent part support, the Lead Parts Engineer must be able to manage a high workload of projects, often required on an urgent or expedited basis.
  • Respond to technical questions submitted via Engineering Requests in PowerNow from field and commercial personnel.
  • Ensure that design configuration is properly updated and maintained in SBOM.

  • Additional responsibilities may include some or all of the following activities:

    • Communicate with customers and other engineering groups to convert quote and order requests into deliverable applicable part(s) by researching drawings, technical manuals, databases, parts catalogues and other available sources for accurate product identification; clarify parts configuration and determines applicable part number(s).
    • Identify customer requested parts and accurately complete engineering part definition attributes in a timely manner.
    • Verify applicability and fit of critical customer requests to turbine application.
    • Provide technical support to internal and external customers in support of orders and quotes fulfillment and sales initiatives.
    • Contact qualified vendors in order to identify and/or validate vendor parts, price and availability.
    • Further tasks not involved in this Job Description that the immediate leader/manager assigns verbally or in writing.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelor's or Masters degree in economics, engineering, or a similar discipline or able to demonstrate equivalent learning through experience.
    • Able to manage complex data sets, providing usable outputs to support problem resolution.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects.
    • Industry experience conducting research or market analysis in the energy sector.
    • Knowledge of energy markets, strong research and analytical skills, and an innovative approach to solving complex problems.
    • Ability to think critically, act decisively, and deliver results.
    • Ability to travel on business 20%-30% of time.
    • Strong team player able to collaborate across multi-cultural teams, commodities and geographies.
    • Self-motivated and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Global mindset & customer focus.
    • Ability to develop strong and logical business recommendations supported by data...highly analytical.
    • Effective communication & presentation skills at all levels of the organization.

    • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (eg. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
